When a button is pressed on the remote, it sends out a specific infrared signal that is recognized by the device, causing it to perform the corresponding action, such as changing the channel or adjusting the temperature. The remote control must be pointed directly at the device for the signals to be received, as infrared signals do not pass through obstacles. Additionally, some Xiaomi remote controls also use Bluetooth to connect to other devices, such as smartphones or smart TVs, for additional functionality. **
